Casino Night is also a popular rush staple.  Can you beat the house?

Come meet the brothers, have fun, and turn your back on our cameraman.

You could be the next guy to join our ranks as a member of Phi Kappa Theta!

All About Rush:

So what is this Rush thing and how does it work?

Rush is the approximate week that Georgia Tech fraternities are allowed to actively recruit members.  Rush usually lasts the first weekend of the school semester and most of the following week.  During Rush, each house usually holds events at night that allow non-affiliated potential members (rushees) to check out the house and meet its brothers.

The Phi Kap Rush process:
We gladly invite all Georgia Tech students to come by and participate in Rush.  Upon arriving at the house, we need to check you in so we can tell who all came around that night as well as get a nametag so we can tell who you are.  There is no pressure or obligation put on anyone who comes by for Rush.  When you come by, talk to the brothers and alumni to get a feel for the house.  You can also ask any brother any questions you have about the whole "fraternity thing" and what we do the rest of the year.  If you seem interested in the fraternity and the Phi Kap brothers agree that you'd probably be a good match, then you will be offered a bid.  A bid is a written offer from the brothers of Phi Kappa Theta letting you know that we'd love for you to join us as an associate member, eventually to become a brother.  You do not have to decide about the bid immediately, and as long as you let a brother know your decision during Rush week, you will then join our new associate member class and be on your way to a rewarding and fun time with Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity.  Even if you decide not to accept the bid or to wait a semester, we still want to be friends with you, so come around and join us in our crazy shenanigans!

Rush Vocab:

Rush:  The approximate week dedicated towards fraternity member recruitment- we have a Fall and a Spring rush each year.

Rushee:  An unaffiliated man who is being recruited by fraternities.  In our case, it means anyone who comes to rush who is eligible to be given a bid.

Bid:  An offer of membership given by the brothers of Phi Kappa Theta to a rushee.

Associate Member:  Someone who has accepted the bid of membership and are taking the one semester program to become a fully fledged brother of Phi Kappa Theta.  As an Associate Member, both you and the fraternity has the right to terminate the relationship at any time.

Associate Member Program:  Our Associate Members go through a semester long program designed to teach them how to work together and fraternity history, but it is mainly geared towards building the brotherhood  relationship between members.  Associate members meet once a week, interview brothers, work on special fun projects, throw a party, and even run one of our chapter meetings over the course of the program.

IFC:  Interfraternity Council - the board that governs most of the Georgia Tech fraternities including Phi Kappa Theta - the board is made mostly of undergraduate brothers from various chapters.

Dues:  The semesterly cost of belonging to our organization - dues go toward the things we do during the semester (events, parties, supplies, etc, etc, etc), our semesterly planning retreat, and fees toward national membership and insurance.  Dues vary by fraternity, but ours are historically very low compared to other chapters on campus.

Associate Fees:  The one time fees incurred by becoming an associate member - these fees go towards the Associate Member program materials and the activities done within the program.

Parlor Fees:  Fees charged to all members for the use and upkeep of the house.

If you have any questions about the house or the rush process, please ask a brother during rush, or you can also direct questions to our president, Nick Moore, at president@gtpkt.org.
